Have friends or family in Puerto Rico? Spread the word on the expanded Child Tax Credit

Beginning with tax year 2021, eligibility for the Child Tax Credit expanded to residents of Puerto Rico with one or more qualifying children. The 2021 credit is up to $3,600 per child.

Eligible families can claim the credit through April 15, 2025, by filing a federal tax return, even if they don't normally file and have little or no income.

• Seek reputable tax assistance if they're hiring tax help. Be wary of preparers who promise a larger refund, base their fees on a percentage of the refund, or promise other too-good-to-be-true outcomes.
